Children's Jeans Sizes

Children's jeans sizes follow the French system based on height in cm (86, 92, 98, 104, 110, 116...) or age (2y, 3y, 4y...). As with other kids clothing, cm is the reliable reference — age is just an indicator since children grow at very different rates.

Some brands use the American W (Waist) system even for kids (W23, W25, W27...). Our table gives all correspondences: age, height cm, FR size, US W. Also beware very tight cuts (skinny jeans) which may need sizing up.

Frequently asked questions

What jeans size for a 6-year-old?

6 years usually equals size 116 (for a child around 116 cm tall). If the child is smaller or taller for their age, adjust to their real height. Our table gives all age/cm/size correspondences.

How do I measure a child for jeans?

Take 2 measurements: total height (feet on floor, heels against wall) and waist circumference (at narrowest point, where belt sits). Height gives the size in cm; waist refines (some kids are slimmer or rounder for their height).

Should I size up for growth?

One size (6 cm height) is reasonable for 6 months of wear. Beyond that, child floats and proportions look off. For sturdy jeans (Levi's, durable brands), one up is OK. For low-cost jeans that will fade, size exactly.

My daughter prefers skinny jeans: what size?

For skinny/slim jeans, take the size matching child's exact height (not one up). If between two sizes with non-stretch fabric, size up; with stretch (elastane), size down.

Difference between kids and 'juniors' sizes?

Kids sizes go up to about 152-158 cm (14 years). Beyond, teens/juniors use a different system (XS, S, M...) or directly the adult system. Transition depends on child's build, not strict age.
