Choosing the right sheet, duvet or pillowcase size depends mainly on mattress size. In France, standard mattresses are 90×190 (single), 140×190 or 140×200 (narrow double), 160×200 (queen) and 180×200 (king). Each mattress size has a matching duvet size.
The duvet should always be larger than the mattress to drape over the sides: add 40 to 60 cm in width and 40 cm in length. For the flat sheet, add 100 cm width and 120 cm length (it must tuck under the mattress).

What duvet size for a 160 bed?
For a 160×200 mattress, take a 220×240 cm duvet (queen). Standard for a wide double bed, the duvet drapes well on both sides even if each sleeper pulls a bit.
Difference between flat sheet and fitted sheet?
Fitted sheet hugs the mattress with elastic corners (size = mattress size). Flat sheet goes on top and must overhang generously to tuck (mattress size + 100 cm width, +120 cm length).
What standard pillowcase size?
In France, standard is 60×60 cm (square). In English/Nordic countries, rather 50×70 cm (rectangular). Hotels sometimes use 65×65. Bolster cases are 90×43 cm or 140×43 cm depending on bed width.
How do I choose a fitted sheet for a thick mattress?
Check the pocket depth (elastic edge depth): standard = 25 cm, fits mattresses up to 22-23 cm thick. For memory foam or topper, take 30 cm or 35 cm pocket.
