Chest measurement → top size

Enter your chest measurement to get your top size in FR, US and UK systems.

Bust/chest circumference is the reference measurement for top sizes: sweaters, shirts, t-shirts, dresses, jackets. It is the loop measured at the widest point of the chest, under the armpits. European sizes (36, 38, 40...) are defined by 4 cm increments of chest circumference.

Women and men use different scales: a French women's 40 corresponds to a 92-95 cm chest, while a French men's 48 corresponds to 95-100 cm. Our table covers both and includes US, UK and letter (XS-XXL) equivalences.

How to measure your chest
  1. Stand straight, arms relaxed at your sides.
  2. Wrap the tape measure around the chest at the fullest point (women: at the bust line; men: under the armpits).
  3. Keep the tape horizontal all the way around, snug but not tight.
  4. Exhale normally before reading the measurement in cm.

Frequently asked questions

Should I wear a bra when measuring?

Women: wear an unpadded well-fitting bra for a natural measurement. Men: bare-chested or in a thin t-shirt. Avoid thick clothing (sweater, hoodie) which skews the measurement.

Difference between chest and bust circumference?

Chest/bust circumference is measured at the widest point (bust line for women). Underbust is just under the bust. Both are used for bra size calculation.

How do I convert a US or UK size?

Our table gives the direct correspondence. Quick approximations: US size = FR - 32 (women) or - 36 (men). UK size = FR - 28 (women). But correspondence is not linear, use the table for exact values.

Why am I lost in some brands at the same size?

Brands use slightly different scales. A size 40 at Zara may be a 38 at Mango. Always check the brand-specific size chart when buying online.
