Enter your height, weight and boot size to find the right board length and width for you.

Standing upright, an all-mountain snowboard should reach between your chin and your nose. But weight matters most, because it is what flexes the board: manufacturers publish their size charts in kilos. At the same height, a heavier rider will need a longer board, a lighter rider a shorter one.

Riding style does the rest: a freestyle board is taken shorter to turn and jump easily, a freeride board longer to float in powder. Finally, boot size determines width: above EU 44.5, your feet overhang a standard board and drag in the snow when turning, so you need a wide board.

How to measure yourself to choose a board
  1. Measure your height without shoes, with your back against a wall.
  2. Weigh yourself: it is the most important figure for a board.
  3. Note the size of your snowboard boots (often the same as your street shoes).
  4. Choose your level and the riding style that matches most of your days out.

Frequently asked questions

What size snowboard for 5'11" (180 cm)?

For a 180 cm rider of average weight (about 70 kg) at intermediate level: 156 to 160 cm all-mountain, 152 to 156 cm freestyle, 160 to 164 cm freeride. Above 82 kg, add about 4 cm.

Should I choose my board by height or by weight?

By weight first. Height gives a ballpark figure, but weight is what flexes the board and determines how it holds. Manufacturers' size charts are expressed in kilos: check that your weight falls within the range given for the model you choose.

When do I need a wide snowboard?

As soon as your boots are above EU 44.5 (US men's 11). On a standard board, your toes and heel overhang the edges and touch the snow when the board is on edge, which makes you fall in turns. Between EU 43.5 and 44.5, a standard board works if you set your bindings at steep angles; otherwise, go for a Mid-Wide.

What size snowboard for a beginner?

Take 2 to 4 cm less than the length recommended for your weight, and a soft board. A short board pivots more easily and forgives edge catches. You will change boards once you are linking carved turns on red runs.

How do I set my stance width?

The starting point is your shoulder width, about 30% of your height: 51 cm for 170 cm, 54 cm for 180 cm. Boards have reference inserts ("reference stance"); freestyle riders often widen it by 2 to 4 cm for more stability on landings.
